Metal Gear Solid "Raiden" Redesign - Week 6 - Adding Speed, Building Mechanics, and Materials Exploration

Wow, Michael, really great stuff!


For Week 6, I focused on mechanics and adding more speed to the design (diagonals vs strict verticals/horizontals). Per Josh’s recommendation, I used week 5’s renders as a base for my version 2.0 suit redesign roadmap. I also went back to R and D to figure out the overall mechanics such as how Raiden’s head would turn or how his torso would compress and stretch. I didn’t get a chance to work on his lower body, proportions, and face so that’ll be next week.


Question for Josh, in terms of concept art/design for Marvel, is there an emphasis on function before form i.e. designing the mechanics of the Iron Man suit before making it look cool? Or does form and function play equally important right at the beginning?
