With the rising popularity of 3D Printing, sculpting for the toy industry is a lush business. To be successful takes an eye for minute details and the understanding of how the pieces should be sculpted in order to fit together.

In this course, Martin Canale will help you simplify that task by demonstrating proven strategies that he uses in production every day.

This character sculpting course will consist of 10 weeks of LIVE demonstrations and reviews and 2 weeks of focus on individual projects. You'll learn core skills and be part of a community of artists all working to achieve next level quality in their work.

Most importantly, Martin will focus on sharing his workflow. You will learn how Martin's process will help you to create a portfolio ready character that will impress.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

In this course, students will create a character from start to finish using references for inspiration. The course will cover 3D modeling and sculpting in ZSpheres  and creating clothing. Student will go over retopology, UV unwrapping, cuts and keys for parts and 3D printing. The course will focus on sharing workflows and processes to help better understand the digital toy creation pipeline and sculpting workflows expected in a studio environment.

By the end of the course, you'll:

Conceptualize your 3D character using references and inspiration for block out.

Create realistic clothing and model extra props that bring life to the character.

Morph target selection for cutting key parts for 3D printing.

Learn the industry pipeline, including retopology, unwrapping UVs, and optimal rendering set up.

  • Continue working on sculpting the clothing and armor from masking and panel loops

WEEK 7

Retopology & UVs
  • Retopologize your character into a low poly model

Cutting & Key Parts
  • Layer textures according to reference to create a realistic resulpt
  • Use Noisemaker and morph target selection for cutting and key parts

WEEKS 9 & 10

Capstone Project

About your Instructor

Martin Canale

Martin is a sculptor based in Argentina. Born with an eye for art, he began sculpting at 21 when he realized that drawing didn't give him the freedom to create what he had in mind. 

His past employment includes selling to comic book companies and working in FX, but most of his career has been spent working freelance. Currently he works with SideShow Collectibles creating toys under licenses such as Disney, Warner Bros, and Universal.

What if I miss a class? Can I download it later?
Yes, everything is recorded and downloadable.

How long do I have access to the material?
You have access to the course material for two weeks after the end of the course.  A total of 12 weeks.

How long are the live sessions?
The live sessions are between two and three hours long.

When do you get the downloads up?
We get the downloads of live sessions online about 24 to 48 hours after the live session ends.

How do I talk to the teacher?
You can talk freely during the class and also via the Workplace group and private forum.

Will I be able to ask questions?
Yes.

Are there demonstrations or lectures?
Yes. They will be live and recorded. All downloads will be in your course.
