Ten Week Evening Course In Figure Sculpture with Ryan Kingslien & Nikitta Young

Sculpture is one the purest, most accessible art forms. If your an illustrator or a graphic designer or a character artist sculpture has something for you. In this course we will work with live models to understand the fundamentals of sculpture and the human form.

We'll work with basic shapes, refining those shapes into planes and structure and how you can develop your own unique approach to the medium.

Every Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Class runs for three hours.

What You'll Learn:

• Basic forms of the human figure
• How to block out form and refine details
• How to work with planes, structure and forms
• How to create sculpture without armature using terracotta clay
• How to free your imagination to create your own style

Agenda

Week 1

Learn the basics of constructing a sitting figure in terracotta clay and how to block in form. You'll learn how the old masters constructed simple shapes and built levels of resolution.

Week 2

Learn how to refine the form of your sitting figure, block out the face and deepen your levels of detail

Week 3

Learn how to construct a standing figure in terracotta using a simple armature and deal with unsupported clay.

Week 4

Explore the hands and feet and learn a few simple tricks for getting great results in this incredibly difficult part of the human body.

Week 5

Learn how to construct a figure in terracotta that is lying down on their side or back. Learn the simple ways to construct this figure to proportion without losing their shape.

Week 6

Refine and detail your sleep character paying attention to anatomy and forms like hair.

Week 7

Sculpt the portrait using simple planes and forms.

Week 8

Finalize your portrait sculpt using more detailed levels of anatomy and form.
